Child Care Resource & Referral
We offer parents and the community free resources and referrals to all
types of licensed and registered child care programs. Referrals are provided on the phone or in person by Child Care
Specialists who help parents identify individual child care needs and provide detailed information and referrals.

New Jersey Cares for Kids
New Jersey Cares for Kids (NJCK) is a subsidy program which helps low-income, full-time working parents and students pay for child care. Child Care Resource & Referral administers this program for
the state and eligibility is determined by family size and income. Funding for this program is limited and clients may be placed on a waiting list.
Work First New Jersey
Work First New Jersey is the welfare-to-work initiative. As the Work First client prepares to
enter the workforce, Child Care Resource & Referral is responsible for educating clients regarding types and availability of child care
in addition to finding and paying for child care services.
Quality Infant Toddler Initiative (QITI) / Healthy Child Care New Jersey
QITI is a collaboration between the New Jersey Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the New Jersey Department of Human Services and the Department of Health and Senior Services. This initiative promotes the healthy development of children in child care. The goals of this program include enhancing the quality of health and safety resources,
providing access to preventive health services, and on-site child health consultation.
Training & Staff Development
We provide a variety of educational opportunities for family child care providers, child care center staff, school age programs, nursery schools, camps and special needs programs.
Trainings are offered in locations throughout the counties.
Strengthening Families Through Early Care and Education
Eight centers in Middlesex and Somerset counties have been chosen to participate in New Jersey’s Strengthening Families Initiative (SFI). SFI helps early childhood
centers work with families to strengthen supports systems that will prevent child abuse and neglect.
Family Child Care Registration & Training
As the state registering agent for family chid care in Somerset and Middlesex Counties, we provide training and technical assistance to family Child Care providers and are responsible for the monitoring of family child care homes.
Child Care Food Program
The Child Care Food Program provides partial reimbursement to family child care providers for the meals they serve to the children in their care. The program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture. To participate in the program, the caregiver must be state registered, complete monthly menus, meal count records, monitoring visits and trainings.
In the operation of the Child Care Food Program, no participant will be discriminated against because of race, color, national origin, disability, age or sex. Any person who believes that he or she has been discriminated against in any USDA-raleated

Kinship Navigator
The Kinship Navigator Program is a subsidy program for adults who are raising relative's children in their own homes. To qualify for child care subsidies, caregivers must prove
legal guardianship of the children and present proof of age and income. Caregivers under the age of 60 who are not working, must prove they are disabled. Financial eligibility depends on the Caregiver’s
age, as well as the size and income of the family unit. Funding for this program is limited and clients may be placed on a waiting list.
Parent Education
Seminars, conferences, written materials, consultation, resource development and referrals are provided to parents. Each public referral includes technical assistance from a Child Care Specialist
who will discuss types of care, quality standards, and the special needs of each child, as well as a packet of written materials.
The Accreditation Faciliation Project
The Accreditation Project is a quality initiative that provides technical assistance, training, policy development and support to centers who are interested in acquiring National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation.
Through funding from the United Way of Central Jersey, we are able to provide support toward the accreditation process to child care centers in Middlesex County and Franklin Township. Priority is given to applicant

Child Development Associate (CDA)
The CDA is a nationally recognized credential for child care providers. We offer year long CDA coures in Middlesex and Somerset Counties. Registration for each new CDA class begins in the fall.

Salsa, Sabor y Salud
Sponsored by Kraft Foods, Inc., Salsa, Sabor y Salud is the first healthy lifestyles program designed especially for Latino families with children under 12 years of age, and presented in public schools. Families participate actively in a series of eight sessions that reinforce the importance of achieving “energy balance” through healthier food choices and increased levels of physical activity.
Child Care Specialists are available to assist you. The Child Care Specialist will provide referrals without bias to type of care or individual provider.
