Health Services and Programs

The Role of the Child Care Health Consultants (CCHCs) is to provide guidance and technical assistance to the child care community regarding the health and safety of children. Services range from answering specific questions and providing telephone advice to providing staff training and scheduling regular on-site consultation visits.

  • A FREE Child Care Provider Resource Kit - The CDC has launched a new initiative involving child care providers in a public awareness campaign to identify children with possible problems in child development. The campaign is called "Learn the Signs - Act Early." Learn more about the campaign and order a FREE Child Care Provider Resource Kit at www.cdc.gov/actearly. On the CDC Act Early website, near the bottom of the right frame under the heading “Child Care Provider” click on “Campaign Materials,” “Download Materials” or “Order Materials.” Look at and download material that you can use right away. You can order online or call 1-800-CDC-INFO. When you order the free kit, you will receive a CD-ROM with fact sheets on:
    • Developmental milestones for 3 months to 5 years
    • Developmental disabilities including autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, vision loss, and hearing loss
    • Developmental screening
    • Milestones checklists you can print out and share with parents
    • Tips for talking with parents about child development
